“Fattoria La Selva”, located in the hills of Trequanda District and ”Fattoria Chiatina”, located in the  Buonconvento District, are both owned by Duccio Pometti.

These two farms , within a few kilometres of each other and not far from Siena, which span more that 815 hectares (2.014 acres) , were inherited by the actual owner through linear succession:  the  “La Selva” through the Socini, a very well known Siena family of notable bankers, notaries and theologians dating back to the 1400s and “Chiatina”  through the Ricci, a wealthy middle class farming family.

This type of line succession is quite rare even in Tuscany, as most of the large estates were broken up or sold long ago, outside of the historical owner’s family line.

Duccio Pometti, with his doctorate-level university degree in economics, gave up his career in investment banking  to become a farmer in 1979, when his grandmother Maria Socini Ricci entrusted him with the undertaking of running the “La Selva”  farmhold.

For many years Duccio grew durum wheat simply through lack of better opportunity; then in 1984  with the aid and encouragement of his life Daniela, he entrepreneurially opted to take a risk with the then fledging idea of “Agriturismo”, farm vacations were beginning to be popular and achieved brilliant success: the “Fattoria  La Selva” now boasts 12 apartments proper and a large luxury villa (Villa Boscarello), two pools and a considerable number of clients, many who have become stalwart and loyal friends, over the years.
